Presenter Keith Anderson, Lawyer
Keith Anderson will present a first person account of life with depression. Keith is a lawyer in Nova Scotia who can attest to the devastating impact mental illness can have on one’s life. He sees stigma in two ways. The first is self stigma. Knowing you have a mental illness and being able to be public about it. Even in the midst of the darkest days of depression, Keith knew he wanted a public voice to discuss mental health issues. But he knows many people who could not do so. As well, most people see stigma, or feel it, by the treatment they receive from others. They can be shunned or even ignored. Keith has had that happen to a great extent. He sees such behavior as a form of discrimination.
